Discover MASHIZAN’s Collections
Designed for sophisticated, bold women with a strong sense of self,
every collection has MASHIZAN’s unique and modern touch.
Each shoe represents a story, an encounter or the people Mashizan meets on his travels.
Flee
The global pandemic had brought the world to a standstill. Most of us were caught in our own little bubbles; we felt trapped and cocooned. We wanted to escape, but it wasn’t always possible. With the pandemic, we were always searching for a quick escape, the first straight line out to run away from. This collection is inspired by that search and desire to find an exit.
Ubud
It was the year I spent much time in Ubud, Bali to direct and write a documentary for Discovery Channel Asia titled “Gods of Rice.” We explored the issue of rice cultivation culture on this island that’s so rich in tradition. Amongst the rice cultivators, there are many who also dabbled in art, modern art to be precise. Through their works, I was struck by their ability to create abstract pieces that boldly used colours. Often without form, but full of meaning. There was cacophony in the abstraction. And yet, there’s also tranquility.
Kyoto Echoes
In this capsule collection, Memories of Kyoto Echoes, Mashizan works with vintage Japanese fabrics, giving them a new lease of life as contemporary, made-in-Italy footwear, alongside luxurious Florentine suede for a modern audience. These vintage fabrics are given a fresh interpretation for women who are unafraid of embracing heritage and re-package tradition into something current and contemporary.
Dirompenti
Inspired by the documentary “Into The Future” (Discovery Channel), this collection sees a kaleidoscope of silver, black, and blue taking centrestage. Exploring the idea of what it means to be disruptors – ordirompentiin Italian – the collection plays with vivid textures and metallic iridescence.
Brazen Peacoks
In the gardens of the southern islet of Sentosa, just off Singapore, beautiful peacocks roam freely, unafraid of their human neighbours who share the tropical sanctuary. With its beautiful plumes, the peacock is an embodiment of beauty, grace, and strength. They go where they want to, fearless in their path. This collection named Pavone (peacock in Italian) pays homage to the bird of paradise native to Singapore, where Mashizan Masjum hails from.
Civiltà
The discovery of a lost city known as Jinsha near Chengdu, China re-told the history of the Middle Kingdom. The excavation site unearthed artefacts of gold, bronze masks, jade, and ivory. This collection named Civiltà (or Civilizations) recalls the rise and fall of civilizations and the beauty they withhold. Hues of gold, emerald and red take centrestage alongside silhouettes that incorporate wave-like motifs.
Xtremissima
This collection was inspired by extreme landscapes and spectacular architecture featured in the TV series, Extreme Living. The series features underground desert homes made of rubber tyres as well as homes built with steel structures that rust over time. The Xtremissima collection is a juxtaposition and reflection of tough boldness and delicate beauty.
